The dog shock collar is basically a special kind of collar used in training the dogs. It is also known as the electronic collars, e-collars, Zap collars, or a remote training collar. There are two main types of shock collars for dogs i.e. the electric dog collar and the citronella collar both works in similar way. The electric dog collar is applied when the dogs are off the leash. It gives a less painful shock to the dog with a low voltage but very effective to get his attention. They are also called as static collars for the dogs. Another type of the shock collar is the citronella collar that produces a spray of the citronella scent into the muzzle of dog that irritate him to do any unwanted act.

Every animal have a different pain thresholds and temperaments. If a dog easily bears a shock but it may be harsh for the other. The repeated shocks cause confusion and anxiety, which may transform the rate of respiration the heart rate or disorder the gastrointestinal.

The shock collars for dogs can be faulty that may give no shock or start giving the nonstop shocks. The shocking collars used for wayward dogs and cats to train them, has first time banned in Britain. Now it is totally banned in Wales, who will break the law, will face the prison of six months and a heavy fine up to £20,000. According to the Kennel Club, the RSPCA and other groups of Pet welfare said that they want this law to be implemented all over the UK. But some of the experts are in the favor of this technique; they said that, this technique is very effective to develop the behavior of a dog that enables him to run into the crowded area and traffic. The ban on the shock collars will lead to the untrained dogs that are dangerous.

But it is the fact that there are many far more effective methods exists to train the dogs, such as the reward-based training method. Still the presence of reward-based training method, some people is still favoring a painful and unpleasant technique to train a dog.

Even the dog shock collar in experienced hands can cause anxiety and fear. Moreover, this can suppress the warning behavior of the dog that he shows before the aggression, which makes them more dangerous and unpredictable. Use of shock collars increases the learning in dogs by associating the shock with specific things. So there will always be a risk of wrong association of a shock, for example if a shock is applied by a trainer for barking and the dog associate it, with something from the environment rather than his own barking like to a nearby child etc. due to the pain.  Another major risk of using a shock collars is that dog may be fail to link a shock with anything and suffer unnecessary shocks by the trainer. You should also keep in mind that not all collars are compatible with a diy dog fence.

If you look at the pros and cons of shock collars for dogs then you will find out that the use of shocking collars to train a dog is not the best possible way. It should be replaced with reward based training to protect animal rights.
